Cheeseburger, Flushing, Nathan’s, and One of My Favorites Dishes
So after reading Herman’s post about Antique Cafe’s cheeseburger being the best burger he’s ever eaten I was intrigued since I work a stores down. On Thursday I decided to try it out.
And guess what? It is the best burger I’ve ever eaten. Though I have to say I haven’t eaten all that many burgers. Actually I don’t like hamburgers and cheeseburgers even less (because it has cheese). But what did it for me was the burger patty. It was quite a substantial chunk of meat. Also the cheese didn’t overpower the burger. Nice. I would get it more often if it wasn’t so expensive. It comes with salad and fries and costs almost $10 (9 dollars and 60 something cents).
Next after work my brother and dad decide to eat dinner in Flushing. They wanted to try out this place my dad found called Corner 28. I’ve never heard of it and I didn’t really feel like eating out so I was like whatever.
Well to my surprise it’s a really nice place. The interior is clean and bright always good things. It’s on the second floor of the building so it gives it some distance from the street noise and crowds. As for the first floor I’m not sure if it’s part of the restaurant but it seemed like it was a fast food place.
We each ordered a dish and my dad ordered shrimp in lobster sauce. It was ok, I’m not that all into the shrimp and I’m not too crazy about lobster sauce.
My brother got minced chicken with cashew nuts. I liked the big chicken pieces.
Originally I wanted to order mustard greens but they didn’t have. So I got this vegetable instead. I’m not sure what it is in English but in Cantonese it’s toong sum choy (mean hollow vegetable). It was good but I wished the garlic was cut up instead of having it as bigger cloves.
One aspect that really surprised me about the restaurant was the bathroom. This restaurant had the cleanest and fanciest bathrooms I’ve seen in a Chinese restaurant. Serious. So I think I come back sometime or at least keep the place in mind.
Friday. Almost on a whim I decided to go to Coney Island. Astroland was closing and it was a while since I had eaten at Nathan’s.
I think one of my main objectives at Nathan’s was to try the frog legs. I remember eating them from Nathan’s when I was in elementary liking them. But since it was a while I forgot what they tasted like so I wasn’t sure I’d still like them. I got a 4 piece order. It was really good. Kinda like chicken kinda not. The texture is like chicken but the taste is bit different.
After frog legs, well when I was waiting for my frog legs I decided to get a hot dog (I’m at Nathan’s, come on!) and a corn dog (saw the ad and a kid eating it so “why not?”). I like hot dogs. I’m not sure when the last time I had a corn dog so I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. So it was a bit of a surprise that the covering was like fried corn bread. The corn dog was really tasty and I have feeling really unhealthy.
I had minced beef with green peas on rice with an egg for dinner Friday night at Hsin Wong in Chinatown. It’s one of my all time favorite dishes to get for lunch or dinner in Chinatown. I usually just get beef with green peas on rice but I hadn’t had egg for a while so I decided to treat myself to one. I think it was $4.50, cheapier than everything in this post.
Well I think this was a good first post. I know my writing isn’t all that good but hopefully I will improve as I try to become more articulate about what I eat.
